Is January really the month we’re all hung over?

I’ve often been describing January to people as a month when nothing much happens, that it feels like a month when everyone's still hung over from Christmas that it’s not a period where I get much in the way of work, where not much happens.

I’m actually thinking that isn’t true, at least in recent years in any case. This January turns out to have been quite busy indeed.

I have been heavily involved in building the online site for Space Makers new project in West Norwood. More on this in a later post as it’s very much ongoing, but essentially it’s going to be an online community for the West Norwood Feast project and a place to map out what already is going on there. Alongside building that site I have been involved in the Meet Ups discussions about how the project can work online and been guiding people through putting up editorial.

I’ve been at several meet ups and planning stage for a new social enterprise start up. I’ve been getting a lot more commercial interest in my projects, I even had a trip up to North London/South Hertfordshire School to teach a student Arduino. All of this is very much a result of so many of my social networks that I built up in the last two years.

These networks built up back in 2009, again it was those first weeks in January, Tuttle, Temporary School of Thought, Long Now Meetup. It was a period where a lot of introductions happened and where a lot of my current networks where built up.

So while in terms of work, January is not really my busiest, it does seem to be that part of the year that sets things up for the year ahead.
